We were able to escape for a few days to Colorado and visit my sister-in-law and her family over the Memorial Day holiday. It felt good to just get away for a few days. It's always an adventure packing the kids in the car and heading out for a road trip, and this proved to be no exception. About 15 minutes into the trip Jane asked, "Are we almost there?" One never knows what to expect driving through WY. We thought the weather would be ok, since it was the end of May (we are used to driving this route in November for Thanksgiving and the weather/driving conditions are always sketchy). But, we were wrong. Well into our drive we discovered that there were tornadoes ahead of us. Luckily, we were about an hour behind the tornadoes so we didn't have to cross their path and we managed to avoid any road closures. We did see some of the tornadoes' aftermath though. On the return trip it was pouring rain, and there was dense fog. Oh well, we survived and made it there and back safely. I was hoping for good weather for the drive so that when it came time to stop for lunch we could stop at a park or rest stop and let the kids burn off some energy outside. No such luck...we had to stop at the playland at McDonalds instead. Not exactly my favorite place.
Once we made it to Colorado the kids had a great time with their cousins. They only see each other once or twice a year and always enjoy the time they are together. We visited the Denver Zoo while in Colorado and were able to see lots of animals. We also went to Tiny Town, which is this miniature railroad mining town complete with a little steam engine train. We thought the town would be a kid-size town, full of smaller old west buildings the kids could play in, but the town was more miniature than that. Mostly it was little buildings to look at that were full of barbie size dolls and furnishings. The kids still had fun and managed to squeeze themselves into some of the buildings. The train ride was the coolest part of Tiny Town...it was a real working steam engine complete with coal. The kids put on a "Talent Show" for us one morning, and we enjoyed climbing on the rocks near their house. Jared managed to get some mountain biking in, and we were able to sneak out for dinner one night with his sister and her husband and had some delicious Thai food-without the kids!
It was good to get away, and it is always good to be back home.

Looks like fun. Cory was jealous, he loves Colorado.
